If you look around, I'm sure you can find various other issues similar to this with files such as Avi, or Mpeg and such.

Either way, My issue derives from files with the extension ".URL"

Whenever I go into a folder with such a file, my windows explorer crashes. I get the "Has stopped working" error.

I noticed in some of the threads discussing the similiar issue that they needed to register/unregister shmedia.dll But that file is for media files. Either way, if I try to do so, i get the "The module "shmedia.dll" failed to load." And even if I download and place the file in system32, i still get the same error.

Oh, and I'm 64 bit.

Hi, Welcome to SF,

Which is your Default Browser ? Do you see any error in Event Viewer ??

Start > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application check for Errors.
Also check with Data Execution Prevention is Enabled or Disabled

Post us the result.

Good Luck,
Captain
