To overwrite or replace the original system files, you need to take ownership of them. You may read this topic to know the process of taking ownership : Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums , or you may use the registry entry to add "take ownership" in your right click menu.

Dont forget to take backups of the original files before changing them.

After taking ownership, rename the original explorer.exe to something like explorerbackup.exe, and put the downloaded explorer.exe in system 32, run task manager to restart explorer, and its done.

You say everything is right, and still it doesnot work? At least it will change your start orb to a mac logo.

Check whether there is the original explorer (renamed to something) and the new one. Then have a second chance. I think it should work.

BTW, the explorer.exe will not change a much stuff other than the start orb. To change that , you may use this program :Win 7 Start Button Changer 1.0 by ~Kishan-Bagaria on deviantART. Then replacing explorer.exe would not be needed.

You need to change permissions and grant full control to your account to modify explorer.exe.

Or do as Arc suggested as it is a lot easier to to do and can be changed as often as you wish :)
