Ok I know this is a windows 7 forum but my other desktop is running on xp and this was the only place I knew I could get solid reliable help. The problem is my explorer.exe is giving me a error every time I start my computer. I get the whole send error, don't send error, or debug message. I've been trying to fix this for awhile and I know that all I have to do is make a new copy of explorer.exe and replace the old one but my problem is this. I can't open my computer, or when I open task manager and i click browse it crashes. So can you please help me out here. Maybe a registry fix or a way to force open my computer so I can get to c:/windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Follow the above suggestion, if if it fails do a scan of Malwarebytes in safe mode with networking

Does it crash only when you visit certain folders?

Like folders with either pictures or video in them?

If so then you have got a bad codec installed for a specific file type and as explorer tryis to open the file to gets it's properties it crashes.

If that is the case you can try uninstlling any codec packages you may have installed, though in general finding and extracting or modifying the priority of a particular problem codec can take some time and deep system spelunking.

I ran a quick scan of malware bytes but I am going to try a full scan in safe mode. I will run sfc/scannow as well. the only problem is I don't have the cd. Will sfc still work? And my task manager crashes if I select browse. And I just can't acesse anything that will let me into my computer. If I select control panel, my computer, docs, ect it crashes.

Sfc scan now finds and fixes OS corrupted files. There is no need for a clean installation.

Ok so I never had a problem with explorer.exe before I installed windows updates. I just fixed the explorer.exe problem
By disabling the file by renaming it. I restarted my comp and everything worked great. Now I just did the updates again and now explorer.exe crashes again. Same problem and I'm back to square one. Any suggestions on what to do?
