Whenever I create a new subfolder and drag and drop music or movie files into it from the parent folder, the details listed are changed from my preferred default details (Name, Size, and Last Modified) to Title, Contributing Artists, Album and # (Track Number). As it's tedious to manually change them all back every time it happens, is there any way of switching off this annoying behaviour or am I stuck with it?

Thanks. I'd already done the trick of hitting the "Apply To Folders" button in Folder Options, but only with a template folder of sundry files, which I naively thought would fix it globally. If I understand the article right, to fix it for folders containing music files etc., I have to repeat the process using a folder of music files as the template, then again using a folder of videos, then again for one of pictures, then again for one of documents, and that ought to put me back in control. I'll try that. Very much reminds me of the time I just wanted Windows to automatically open an explorer whenever I plugged in a flash drive, and it reverted to asking me silly questions whenever it noticed there were media files or whatever on the volume. The fix was something pretty similar. It was tedious to do but it was a pretty stable fix once I'd done it.

OK, that worked fine and so far it hasn't reverted to its former rubbish state. Problem solved, thanks for the tip :-)
