Hello and thank you for your time.

I am having this issue that is really annoying me and I have now idea how to fix it!!!

I am running Win 7 x64, and every time I open the My Downloads folder, and then just select a file, or try to move or something, the error "Windows Explorer has stopped working / is Restarting", and it closes all of my open windows. I have only noticed this issue when I am on this folder!

The Event Viewer shows to items after the error occurs:

Here is the Event Viewer log:

Thank you so much.

Since the crashing file is part of the OS you should run a system file check. That verifies and repairs your system files. To do that
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and "/")

Let us know the results

One possible cause could be a defect on your hard drive (often associated with ntdll errors). I suggest you run a chkdsk /F in elevated cmd.

PS: zigzag, one reason I did not suggest the sfc was because it seems to happen only with the Downloads folder. Thus I assumed that the ntdll.dll is not corrupted.

Whats Next?

All right, I have ran the sfc, and the chkdsk.
The problem remains.

I am not sure what you mean by run it in "elevated mode", but I ran the chkdsk/F durung a system restart.

Any other ideas?

Thank you again.

Elevated mode = run as admin. You can set this for cmd when you go to All programs > Accessories > right click on Command Prompt > Properties > Advanced > check the box "always run as admin". Then it will always run in elevated mode. Else you will have to right click on cmd and "Run as admin" each time.

Ok, I did run it on "elevated mode", I just didn't know that it was called that.

Problem solved.
It was a corrupt Revit file I had downloaded from Autodesk's Seek website.

I terminated windows explorer through the task manager, and then deleted the file through the command prompt.
