Extemely long boot time - driver problem

Hi, I recently installed Windows 7 ultimate on my computer. The installation went fine, up untill the point where it had restarted and was finalizing something, or whatever - it was the last step of installation in any case. After that was done, it restarted, booted fine up untill the part that about "Windows is starting" where it has the logo in the background. It completed that bit, then I was left with a black screen for about 20 minutes, but I had a working cursor.

I thought nothing of it, and assumed it was because it was a clean install and was still finishing some settings or whatever, loaded to desktop once the login screen appeared and I logged in. I assumed there was nothing wrong at this point.

The next day, when I got home from school I turned on the computer, and sat there waiting for it to load. Once again it got to the "Windows is starting" bit with the logo in the background, then I was left with the black screen and cursor for about 20 minutes.

I got annoyed at this, so restarted and booted into safe mode - the computer loaded in about 60 seconds, making me think it's something to do with the drivers.

PS - I'm not sure if this is important, but it seems to be that I need to wait for the screen to hibernate before I can get the login screen. Once it goes to hibernate, and the LED on the front goes yellow, I move the mouse, and it pops up with the login screen and I can log in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Windows 7 Support Forums,
Its possible some missing graphics drivers did not fully install but I'm making a guess here. If possible would you able to fill in your system specs in your profile so that we may continue trouble shooting? Also are you installing the 64 bit or X86 OS and did you perform a clean install?

Regards,
Adrian

Welcome!

It would be helpful to fill out your system specs. Download Speccy if you need help.

I am gathering that you have a desktop.

Unplug all unnecessary hardware from your computer, like video cards, hard drives, webcams, and external USB devices.

If the problem stops, we can then determine which device is causing the issue.

Ok. I installed 32-bit ultimate, and it works perfectly apart from the long boot time

PC Specs are:-
AMD Athlon 7750 Black Edition
2GB RAM
ASUSTek Computer Inc - NVIDIA nForce 740a SLI Chipset
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
500GB Samsung HDD

As you can see, it's not the best machine, but it's pretty good and shouldn't be taking that long to start up.

A few things kinda at random:

Do you show any yellow exclamation points in device manager, particularly regarding graphics?

run sfc /scannow from a command prompt

Look in bios and in Windows for controls related to hibernation.

Hi go Here and it will check your machine for missing drivers, in case you have some.

Follow the instructions, and when it does it's scan, press the green button bottom left of picture and install whatever it has for you, this might help with your problem
