Extended File Explorer

I find the Existing file explorer very limited and am looking for a simple ot use but feature rich replacement / upgrade to Windoze 7 File Explorer.

Hoping someone will be kind enough to reply.

What I specifically want to do in a single operation is:
Sort a number of directories / folders and the files contained therein in by date order. So it shows me the files date, regardless of which folder / directory each file might reside. Then I want to select files that are maybe 1 month old and copy only them with the folder / directory structure being automatically recreated in whatever the paste function dictates.

Yes I know there are probably a heap of extended files explorers out there, of course. But having tried a couple now, even those that promised this function, seem to hold them buried in two three or four steps for each copy and paste, to ensure the folder structure is recreated.

Any takers? (I am happy to pay a few dollars for anything commercial), but would prefer to stay with freeware if possible.

Batch File or PowerShell

It sounds like you may need to use a batch file or PowerShell script.

I'll post a message asking if a script expert can assist you. :)

You select the folders and tag all files on it (Ctrl +T). Then you Show all tagged files, sort by date select those you want. Alt copy will copy with the path.

Yes but my targets do move. What I mean is that from where I want to copy and paste, what I want to copy and paste and what dates is a moving feast.

Would a script be able to handle that?

XT Gold, what a gem. Used it for years and years. even tried to find it again not so many years ago. I know it well. What an awesome tip to get. Thanks so much for this.

It is going to take me a bit to get used to driving a dos window again but for sure it does what I need it to. Is there a windows based tool anywhere that does the same?

Thank you so much for your reply however. As a first start this tool does everything needed. Just need to launch it a few times to copy all the directories from different drive locations to get multiple copy and pastes going at one time.

For sure Ztree will do what you want. It has a GUI but the commands are by the keyboard.

Also have a look http://freecommander.com/en/summary/

Its all good I am looking at Freecommander currently, thanks. Have asked them my question in their forums also. For Ztree, it works fine. But I am struggling to get it to "log" only the specific directories I want to work with rather than the whole drive each time.

Kinda nice to be back in a Dos environment actually. But frustrated at what I can't find that is right under my nose :-)
