As mentioned in the title, I get a blank tab when i type in services.msc. The advanced tab is working fine though.

I am running on Windows 7 Pro. Searched in some places and found that this is probably due to some form of virus / trojan infection. Nothing is turning up when I scan the PC using malwarebytes / combofix. My AV is ESET NOD32.

Here is an image of how my services.msc look http://i.imgur.com/VIDFZ.jpg

I ran the SFC scan; in fact that was the first thing I did. No problems found.

I saw many posting the same issue in several other forums. It seems the only way they were able to sort it out was through a re-install. This I do not wish to do - at least for the time being..

Theres no need to reinstall just for this issue. The only difference between the standard view and extended view in the services console is that extended view provides a left pane containing a description of the selected service and a convenient hyperlink to start/stop the service. In the standard view, the left pane is missing and you need to double click on the service, that brings up a box where you can read the description and other details and also start/stop the service. Not having the extended view available is not debilitating.

I understand that.

However, I find that ever since the problem showed up, I am not able to do a couple of other things. Like yahoo messenger does not work. I am not able to see the instant messages send to me. IE 9 is practically dead - it will not open up any pages. I have to try numerous times for a website to load properly. So such issues with FF, which is my primary browser. Yahoo messenger relies heavily on IE - so both those could issues could be related in some way or the other (hint - scripting etc etc)

The same issue is there when I try gpedit.msc The extended tab is blank.

Hmm okay .. Let me try doing a repair install of Windows 7.

Thanks.

Edit: Repair install did the trick .. (although it took nearly one hour to complete the process)

Hello Vishw4ever, just FYI: don't expect a response to this thread from 2011.

However he did indicate that the Repair install did the trick. :D

If you are stuck, after that, don't be shy about making a new topic... :)
