Extended Volume - Files Not Visable

Hello, I have had a problem with my Acer Aspire 6935g, it kept loading Acer Arcade Deluxe on shut down, which stopped my laptop loading Windows again. I reinstalled W7, and read about Acer Arcade, which said it runs from a hidden partition, and someone recommended removing it. So after reading a few guides, I used DiskPart to delete the partition, Another guide said i could add the free space onto another partition, so i went to Disk Management and on my Data (D partition, I Extended the volume to add on the new free space.

However, now I've gone to drive D:, all my files have disappeared, but the guide didn't say they would, can anyone tell me what to do and can i get my files back?

Also, after doing this, I tried restarting which resulted in my laptop not coming on, and displaying the message BOOTMGR missing, so i put the Windows 7 disk in and did startup repair,

But when i go to Disk Managment now, my main drive C:, no longer has a letter, and has been called recovery partition, and my drive D:, is listed as (System, Active, Primary Partition) But W7 isn't on this drive, and i cant right click on the old C: and click Make Active, as it just comes up with help and no other options.

Aye, aye, aye. First, you should always back up your computer before resizing or deleting a partition. Bootmgr is missing because you have deleted the partition with your operating system. You will need to start over. Specifically, reinstall windows. Delete all partitions, then create one partition to install the operating system and all files on. This is one of those learning moments. Sorry.

Hey, the two partitions i deleted were hidden ones, one was Acer Recovery and the other one i read online is for Acer Arcade Deluxe which supposedly runs like an operating system, InstantON and uses XP?

I replaced the Bootmgr file and windows is working fine now and booting up ok.

Its just my Data partition that's still not working, it just appears empty, But it still says theres 50gb of space taken up, and if i run right click, go to properties, and use Error Checking, it scans through 60000 files, which is about as many files as i have there, So are they definitely gone? i thought the drive would show as 100% free space?

Well good news on getting your system up. Wonder how bootmgr got deleted?

So if you can click on properties, does that mean you have the data partition named? If so, pull up a command prompt and go to the volume letter (c:, d.

Then type

dir /ah

That will display hidden files. Just want to see if the attributes have been changed.

You can also run windirstat, uncheck to show hidden files, run as admin, and see what appears.

Im really unsure to be honnest, In My Computer, its all as it should be, Acer C: which the OS is on, and Data D:

But in Disk Management, Acer C; is classed as hidden, and since recovering the bootmgr with my W7 disk, its put the boot files in D:, so in Disk Management it says its the System partition and the main boot.

The boot file went right after i deleted the partition that has the Acer Arcade Deluxe on, My laptop is a 6935G, it has this touch console on the side, like something out of star trek, http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3007/2330946090_864cb855da.jpg . One button loads the Arcade program, which is basicly a copy of Windows Media Centre, but it loads it as an OS from the partition i read it was based on Win XP?, so perhaps the original bootmgr is part of that, im not sure of the ins and outs, its just what iv read, but a lot of people have had problems with it starting up when you go into hibernation, and then your laptop doesn't boot to anything but Arcade Deluxe, its happened so many times i gave up and that's why i deleted the partition.

Anyway sorry to ramble lol, I downloaded that WinDirStat (didnt run a command prompt, wasnt sure what to do), and it also cant see the files in Data D:, nor can the Linux bootable CD i just downloaded, however, i found a program called GetDataBack, and it lists all of my important files without any problem, but my downloads folder is all but gone, however, to save the files you need to buy a license, haven't checked how much its going to cost yet lol

So going to see about saving these files, format the hard drive, and re partition everything properly and start again.

You might have a better idea whats happened, i have no idea :huh:
