On Win7 Pro 32-bit, Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family 8.15.10.2021 (HP 6730s laptop):

I tried extending the desktop to an older Compaq 5017m LCD monitor without success. The monitor by itself displays reasonably, yet when I tried extending to it the display appears to go almost all magenta. None of the available settings appeared to make any significant difference. As a standalone the monitor works just fine. Any suggestions (other than don't do it)?

Thanks.

Go to Intel's site, run the auto-update utility and check the newest drivers are available, then connect the monitor and dig around in Intel's config utility, the setting is somewhere there.

Any notion of what setting I'm looking for? I've tried resolution, color depth and refresh rate.

Well, applying the infinite monkey theorem, I rather than mucking about in Graphics Properties or Graphics Options, I tried the context menu's Screen Resolution. This gets me into Win7's utility rather than Intel's. For whatever reason, the $&%*^($ thing now behaves as intended.

So thanks for getting me thinking about this again. We're on the air.

That would be the second choice, but if Intel won't do it . . .
