Do you want to get involved with RAID? I think that may be the only way if you truly mean "extend" rather than "exchange" or "replace".

Do a general "disk cleanup" with Windows or CCleaner.

Uninstall as many programs as you can.

Delete hibernation file if you don't use hibernation.

Restrict space used by System Restore.

Possibly reduce or relocate your page file.

Save up for a new and larger SSD.

If you are under 85% or 90% of capacity, I would think that the SSD should run efficiently.

60 GB is plenty of space to run the OS from. You shouldn't be anywhere near running out of space, unless you installed a lot of large apps or games to it. If so, uninstall those apps and reinstall them on the HDD.

A bare installation of Windows Home Premium 64-bit takes under 20 GB as I recall.

Then you need something like WinDirStat to show you what is taking up the rest of the space. The computer I'm using now has a 64 GB RealSSD drive in it, and I have everything installed to C, and I'm only using about 33 GB of the drive.

How much space are you allotting to System Restore or your page file?

If you don't use hibernation, you can save a bunch more (8 GB in your case) by deleting the hibernation file.

Late but not irrelevant

I know this is an old thread, however, I am working on a friends computer and I had to do a search on how to extend the 16GB SSD w/Windows 7 installed on it with a HDD and this thread appeared so people still might find this and the info given by the responder who is a "Gold Member", "Supporter", "Seven Guru", and has a "Microsoft Community Contributor Award", is completely incorrect. The HDD can be, at the least, mounted to any empty file on the SSD. To tell someone to make changes to their Windows installation is, in my opinion, very irresponsible, even if the things said may not matter, an inexperienced user can do severe damage if not careful.

I'm not sure, but I am going to try to divide my partition into several pieces to mount in various folders that I think will need more space.
