Solved external drive, should i use to back up or

I was just wondering what the common thought was on external drives... I have 1t hdd, and i have 1t external but I'm at a cross roads on how to use it...If i should use it strickly for backup and keep my computers hdd for all my media... or should i store all my media on my external and set up a share path file so my home network can use it..:sarc::sarc::sarc:

Here's what I do and the choice is strictly yours, of course.

I use my external for backups and storing rarely used files, programs, etc.

If you decide to use it for backups, you must remember this very important detail: Your external hard drive is just that- a hard drive. It is prone to all the same failures that any other drive is susceptible to.

With that in mind, I backup those backups on a monthly basis to DVDs.
If the backups are critical to your business or to you, keeping a set of backups off-premises is a good hedge against Acts-of-God (ie, fire, storms, etc).
