External Hard Disc Takes too long to respond but still not responding

Hai,

I am New to this forum. Please Help Me

Yesterday I was watching a film in my External HD(WD 1TB).After finishing movie i disconnect the HD.Then It shows that "You need to format device to use".Then I again plug the HD .When I Opens MY computer the green task bar is running too slowly to respond.In left task bar we can see that the Hard disc letter but not responding.Even i cant shut down the computer with plug in HD. After Unplug the HD there was no problem to the system.


My system:

32Bit : Intel Core 2 Duo : 2GB ram : 1TB HD : External 1TB Western Digital

I am sorry this is happening to you!

If you have critical files on your external WD hard drive, that you want to recover, do not format the drive! When formatting a HDD any information that's on it, gets erased.

The main possibility is that your external hard drive has suddenly become RAW. This means that it is not a system recognized by Windows. Therefore it's unable to be mounted as a drive. This often happens when the records determining the filesystem type or location on the disk are damaged or corrupted. And since Windows doesn't see a filesystem in the partition of your external hard drive, it wants you to format it in order to create a filesystem on it. But as I mentioned above, you shouldn't if you have any information on it that you want back! Also, don't try and write anything on the RAW drive.

The reason this could happen is when you disconnect an external hard drive from the PC without using the "Safely Remove Hardware" option. This is why I would advise you for the future to always safely remove your hardware.

In this case you need to recover your data. The most secure way to do this is to take it to a Data recovery company. The link below is to WD's official Data recovery partners:

Because you mention that your system slows down in performance and doesn't fully respond, it makes me think that you should better take your external hard drive to a specialist to fix it.

If not, you could try and RMA the hard drive but first you need to check if it's still in warranty. You could do this in the link below:

Yes, as I suspected, your external WD drive has gone RAW like shown in picture 3. As I also assumed, you do have valuable information on it.

So do not click "Format", so you don't erase the information and your best option to save your files is through a Data Recovery Company. Here's a link again to WD's official Data Recovery partners:

There is always the option for you to try and use a data recovery software yourself, but you need to keep in mind that the more you try to recover with such a program, the less likely will professional recovery companies manage to save anything later on.

After saving your information your next best step is to take the drive to a professional with experience in hard drives and computers to see if it can be fixed.

In most cases Partition Recovery Wizard in MiniTools Partition Wizard can recover the partitions in the drive.

Do not format your drive.

Please download and install Partition Wizard Home Edition8.1.1

Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online

and run the Partition Recovery Wizard on the external drive.

Do a Full quick scan and see whether your partition/s show up. Select the partition/s and the preview map in that screen at the bottom should show your drive as before. ( Double clicking on the selected partitions should show all your files.) Then click on Apply to execute the pending operations.

If in doubt which partitions to select, stop, post a screenshot and ask for guidance.

I tried to open my hard disc in linux...

Than god...Success...Its Opened and nothing happened to my files...

Now I am trying to copy my things to another HD(till not available) to format my RAW HD through LINUX....

If Partition Recovery Wizaard can find the lost partition, you can simply restore the partition by rewriting the partition table in sector 0-the very first sector,and you will regain your drive as it was before. There will be no need to copy the files to another drive.

Try it. It can in no way destroy any data which only start from sector 63 or 2048 and you can still recover it with Linux, if it does not work..
