External hard drive problems

To save space on my laptop, I have moved a lot of files (mainly Word or Excel) to my portable external hard drive which is attached via USB to my laptop.

I have set some of the folders in the drive to be included in my Documents library and shared with my Homegroup.

However, when I try to open them, I am told I do not have permission.

As I am the owner of the files, how do I fix this, please?

Did you use the external drive with another system? That's how the permissions could have been changed.

My external hard drive is used for my laptop, which used to run Vista before Windows 7.

I followed these recommendations but now have the
Grant Admin Full Control option on my right click in Explorer.
Unfortunately, this also shows up in my Guest ID which, obviously, I do not want.
How do I remove it, please?

Any advise for #7 question, please?

I believe that the user in the guest account would have to know the admin, password. Give it a try to be sure.

If that is the case the user would not have access.
