Hello fellow members,

I have the Western Digital 500GB External Hard Drive. Whenever I plug it into either USB 3 or 2, it takes a long time for it to show up on My Computer and for the Autoplay to pop up.

Also when Safely Removing, it is slow as well...So after the Safely Remove bubble appears, I remove the External Hard Drive, and then a few moments later, I hear the removal sound.

Even my old 512MB Kingston USB stick is faster. With almost instant Autoplay popup and ejection..

You say a "long time". How much time are you talking about?. If it is minutes then that is slow, but if it's 20 or 30 seconds then it's probably the external HDD starting & up preparing itself, which would probably fairly normal. HDDs have rotating discs that have to be started & brought up to speed before it is fully ready.

USB ricks don't have any moving parts so are almost instantaneous.

Ya, it's around 20-40 seconds.

But, I have another issue. Whenever I plug my 500GB WD external hard drive in, I can never "Safely remove", it always says there is a program currently running when I closed everything...I even tried unlocker and it can't find any programs open either.
