External hard drives are not being recognized at all.

My HP Envy Phoenix 810-135qe desktop will no longer recognize my external HDDs. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit service pack 1.. Both drives have always worked without any issue; one drive is a Seagate 1TB, and the other is a Western Digital My Book 1 TB. The external drives are older models, but have always worked flawlessly. I actually only use them every few months or so. When not in use, they are disconnected. Windows Explorer is now not recognizing them at all, not even as new hardware. I have already tried Disk Management, and they do not appear. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

They do not show up in BIOS.

Unfortunately, at the moment, I do not have another computer at my disposal to check them on. Hopefully, I will be able to find a friend who will allow me to hook them up to their computer for testing.

as you disconnect them, it could just be the port has failed hence the no new hardware found

I have checked all available USB ports, and they all work with other USB peripherals. Having said that, the HDD's in question do not work in any port.

You can try a live bootable version of linux such as ubuntu.
