To Start off, my system has been what I consider a very stable rig, hardly any BSOD's.

Recently, I noticed I have been running low on hd space so I decided to purchase a wonderful new 4tb WD MyBook so I can manipulate and manage files much easier. This is where my problems start. I installed the new drive(and the software that came with it) and ever since then, I randomly get the Stop error 7E Volsnap.sys bsod. I cannot seem to replicate it. Sometimes the system runs fine for 30-45min, others about a min after boot its locks up. Normally I'm able to research and resolve these errors on my own but cannot seem to find a finite resolution for this one. I do have a my windows drive backed up but not sure if I wipe it and restore if the problem will still remain. I'm not sure if its the software from the external as this is the only thing I can think of that changed on the PC recently. One other note...I also have a 2tb external WD elements...that was just bare bones...no special software. Never had a issue with it or the pc. Again not sure if it is the new HDD, the SSD that windows is installed on or the bundled hdd software causing it? I'm posting this from safe mode so hopefully you will have all the info you need in the dump file. Hoping you fine folks will be able to help this lad out. Thanks in advance for any help, it will be greatly appreciated.

I dont have my debugging tools near me but it did happen after you bought the HDD and volsnap is causing it.
I think you should format/wipe it. I think that would fix it.

Thanks for the response. From my understanding...volsnap.sys is a system file. Can you repair or replace this file? Understandably, Windows will not allow me to run repair since my "version" is newer than what is on the disk. Are you referring to wiping my external I just bought or my SSD with windows on it?

Thank you for the help in finding the culprit of my bsods. I uninstalled all software and they went away. Haven't had one since.
