So I have the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit version installed on my computer and have been having some problems with the two external hard drives that I use for media.

Moving files even as small as 300mb from the internal to external hard drives slowly bogs down the CPU usage of cores 3 and 4 until the point where they're nearly maxed out and then the folder that I try and move suddenly stops being recognized and the External drives are not accessible until I restart the PC. This is becoming extremely annoying... Happening with both my 250gb FAT32 drive and 750gb NTSF drive.

When moving files from external to internal it seems to be fine and nothing bad happens....

How are they connected? If eSata you may need new drivers for your controller and to swich to AHCI mode in the BIOS. Just an idea.
