I decided to get an external HD, so that I can make an image of Vista before upgrading (custom install) to Win 7.

Can anyone recommend a good external HD 300-500 gb, compatible with both Vista and Win 7? Do you know where it can be purchased at a good price?

I have one and can't seem to get it to work. It's not showing up under the drives list in "My Computer" but it is in the drive list when I look to see what is connected. It's got no label and I have no way to access the drive.

It does work with Linux and used to with XP but hasn't been recognized there either recently. Maybe it's just my drive.

Any thoughts?

HHmm my thoughts would be to check the drive by holding it in your hand as you plug it in to see if you feel the drive spin up.
