ok im planning on getting a external HDD but i have seen numerous posts on here about compatibility issues, so can someone please recommend a reasonably cheap 1TB external HDD available in the UK that is DEFINITELY compatible?

Be sure to get an ESATA capable one too. The speeds are WAY better. You will be much happier and they reall don't cost more if you look around.
