Solved External USB DVD-Multi Burner (LG) Keeps Failing During Writing Proces

I recently purchased an LG External DVD-RW drive and it did fine for about 9 discs. Now all of a sudden I tried to copy files to a DVD+R disc last night and after 5 failed discs in a row I gave up. It starts with about 1.1MB written to the drive then it sits and makes a bunch of noise for a while then after about 3-4 minutes it brings up an error in Roxio saying the disc writing process failed and to try again. I've tried with several different brands of discs thinking the discs were bad, still the same problem.

I'm beginning to think the drive itself is bad. Since I've had the drive it seems to be pretty picky about reading discs, or recognizing a disc is in the drive, and seems to make very strange noises while attempting the write process.

You may want to try a different burning program. Roxio has been known to be buggy. It may not be Roxio but its worth a try. The Roxio Drag to Disc program has also been known to interfere with CD/DVD burning.

I'll try another program as well. I just tried dragging files to the drive on the desktop using windows and that failed to write as well. Said it was writing for about 15 minutes but the files are not readable on the disc so it never finalized the disc before windows stopped the process LOL. I'll try a different burning program. Problem is now every time I turn the machine on it says I have files waiting to be copied how do I get rid of that now as well?

The files are deep in the Users folder.

HAHA that will get old really fast. I downloaded the IMGBurn from the link you gave me, I'll try it this evening and see if that helps. I'm wondering if the drive I got is bad as well, and I may try the drive on another computer and see what happens.

Good idea to try it on another PC.

It seems weird that it worked for a while then suddenly started failing during the write process. Not even sure if this drive is truly an LG. Bought it on ebay for $25. I'll see after I get home from work what it does on my other computer and post results here.

I tried the drive on another computer with the IMGBurn software, the drive still doesn't work. Therefore I'm saying the drive is in fact bad rather than a computer or software issue.
