Extremely Fast HDD

Any recommendations on Fast Drives that can save large files 8+ gigs in a matter of seconds. I have a USB 3.0 drive, even though it's connected to a 2.0 port, I'd still prefer something more faster, besides I want it to be internal.

The fastest rated internal drives presently would be SSDs. But due to high prices and the generally smaller sizes with a 1tb model running into the $$$$$$ thousands you wouldn't have the capacity for much more then the OS!

While comparing overall access times to Sata II and Sata III drives, same brand and size here I didn't find any real boost running 7 at first on the Sata III 1tb used for the host/OS drive over using one of the Sata II drives later. Both the S2 and S3 drives are 7,200rpm WD Black Edition models wiith 64mb caches.

As a tule for mechanical Velocity Raptor drives running upto 600gb as the largest fetch the 10,000rpm speed. The old 15,000rpm Raptors however are still much like the SSDs as far as smaller sizes.

I suppose go with a Raptor drive it my best option, although they only come in 600 GB drives. 1TB SSD are extremely expensive, that is out of the question. Any other option, is RAID an option to get 15K speeds with high cache ?

Hardware-based RAID0 should come close to double what you would normally get. Supposedly software-based RAID helps quite a bit although I've not seen where it gained enough to overcome the hassle of dealing with RAID to begin with.

Raid is best left to it's original purpose being server application! Here as I was saying I first tried running 7 on the Sata III drive but left the faster bus to the pair to see supposedly faster access to the pair of storage drives.

For mechanical running a pair of 360gb high speed Raptors(15k rpm) being the largest capacity those see plus Raid would still be limited again by capacity. Most are looking for boosting the OS drive and would simply jump at SSDs if not a Velocity Raptor due to those also fetching high price tags.

Working with video captures that typically exceed 8gb at times I found the file transfer and read access times proved not to actually see any noticable difference between a 1tb Sata II and the same sized Sata III model. Some seem to find they are still better off running Sata II drives as opposed to the supposedly faster S3 bus not being realized under real world conditions.

The same continues to be found here time and time again where a simple copy and paste of any large file, large folder, or large number of files like a folder to folder transfer still takes as long as ever! Too bad you can't run optical between drives since that would be at light speed!
