So I got my active mini display port cable in the mail today, and finally got to try out my setup! Unfortunately, I'm running into some issues with it while full-screened and in game.

The left and middle monitors seem to be "choppy" almost as if it's a refresh rate problem, but the far right is perfectly fine.

This is what it is doing to me on the far left, and middle monitor...
Eyefinity Problem - YouTube

I'm running all of this off of a single 6870 1GB card, but not sure if that's the issue?

I'm not really sure how to trouble shoot this - Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
-Rob

Splitting up one port across two monitors would be the first obvious guess. The bandwidth is immediately cut in half!

Most will add in a second card when trying to expand outward to a 3rd display. The card shown in the AMD/ATI FaQs page has a single dvi port and a dual link dvi port that serves two outputs instead of one. Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE FleX 100352FLEX Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

You likely need to read through the information to see what is the actual recommendations as well as setup information on the AMD Eyefinity FAQS

I'm not actually splitting a port between 2 monitors though - If I'm understanding you correctly, that is?

I have the 2 left monitors running from both DVI ports on my card, and the far right (the one that isn't having issues) is running from the mini display port to dvi adapter.

I took a screenshot while the problem is occuring, and it is not showing to be effected by anything.

The mini port adapter is working fine while the other two suffer from using the normal dvi output. Generally you would expect the opposite to some extent where the 3rd would be the one hampered a bit unless something is overtaxing the main signal.

Have you tried any other screen resolution by change to see if slightly lowering it down would help any? AMD had a good reason for pointing to that Sapphire card however. You might end up having the need to go with another card entirely if the present is unsuitable and unable to handle this type of setup. :(

I've read that the 6870 should be able to handle a minimalist eyefinity setup, and everything seems to be fine except the distortion on the monitors... :(

Is there anything I could do about this rather than purchasing a new card? (I'd rather not)

For the sake of lulz, I'm going to try running...

1 x Mini Display Port to DVI
1 x HDMI
1 x DVI

And just see what happens ;)

EDIT: Was a flop xD The HDMI is reading the monitor as an HDTV er w/e and the res. isn't filling the whole monitor lol

Good! At least it wasn't hardware related while that couldn't simply be left out as a possible cause.

If that is the only place you are running into this then you now know it's strictly software related. This is one reason why I had asked if you had tried running at a different resolution in case something like this was the reason.

Yeah I was hoping it wasn't hardware related (I didn't wanna shell out the money for a new card) xD

But enabling triple buffering/vSync seemed to be a simple fix for it!

Although, I ran some UniGine bechmarks and I really am considering picking up another 6870, or even getting a more powerful single card to run off of because the eyefinity setup on the single 1GB card is definitely limited...

I wasn't sure if you were seeing this all the time or not until you mentioned being in a gaming session. Often the various antianstropic and other settings may have to be tweaked just right if not disabled or left on automatic to get things running smoothly.

If I had the extra desktop space here I wouldn't mind having a 3rd monitor in use! At times that would be a plus when having several browser windows open even! The price tags are still a bit high however for one brand of triple monitor setups. Triple Monitor Multi Screen Display | CineMassive Trio

If your board is SLI capable that would be a thought to boost up the vpu power a bit. Plus you would then have a second card to drive the 3rd lcd with.

With the dual monitor setup here I use either UltraMon or DisplayFusion. For adding on a third lcd then I would be looking at other programs like 9X Media for one option. Unfortunately none of these programs themselves will stretch any pc game across more then one display unless the game itself has that type of option already included.
