Facebook hits 1 billion active user milestone

Also I HATE it if you are in a restaurant and you see mobile phones visible on tables etc.

I would be one of those.....you know, having the phone handy in case the child minder that's looking after the kids needs to get in contact with me?
Hey mate, no one is judging you for that. But there are some protocols that can be forgotten. If an emergancy (baby hit the sitter, and all that jaz), you should excuse yourself from the table and head into the lobby, outside, or other secluded area to allow others to have a fully realized dinner experience. Of course you may have to answer the phone and ask the sitter to hold a moment.

Less fancy restaurants are less restrictive. It also depends who you are and whether or not you give a rats about other diners. But it is a nice thing to do and will reflect who you are as a person.

I don't mind people talking on the phone for a quick conversation, but no matter who you are, it irks me when someone has a full on conversation with someone on the other end, or if someone plays with tablet/phone while at the table.

Kids are another matter. Though I would prefer to keep kids at home (restaurants have changed over the years to be more family friendly), often times that is hard to do. With kids being noisy, sometimes parents feel like all they can do is give a game device to their kids to... shut them up.

It is noise that gets me. Crying babies make me want to punch gerbils. So long as your table is quiet, I couldn't care less if you were slapping eachother silly. It is courtesy that counts!

[Edit]
Oh shoot, this is a facebook thread. A major :focus: on my part haha!

I really don't have anything to bring to the social networking table.
Facebook is full of people like this. :D

Most people I saw waste hours to read all the funny pic/demotivational/friend photo/whatever nonsense that random bots add to their page. Bah. :geek:

Also I HATE it if you are in a restaurant and you see mobile phones visible on tables etc.

Because pulling it out of a pocket would waste precious seconds, putting your kid's life at risk. :p

Besides, it's not recommended to leave expensive electronics in plain sight. Thieves with a brain choose their victim based on these details.

And don't think that because you aren't in Bronx (example of high-crime area) then you are safe. Thieves go where money goes.

It may not be common (most of us are still in a civil place after all) but it is more often than not an unnecessary risk.

The truth is, if the CIA really wants to find you, they will, facebook or no. If you are afraid of 'big brother', you should take yourself completely off the grid. Otherwise, get smart! You have the choice of changing facebook settings to a more privatized account. You control EVERYTHING you share, from pictures, to email... EVERYTHING. The only ones who should worry about this are those who don't have the sense to change their own facebook settings or are otherwise uninterested in changing settings. Don't play the thousands of apps (just as you don't download every kind of software out there). Don't accept friend requests from people you don't know. Just as you don't open an unknown email attachment, you have to play it safe. No antivirus or government can save someone from their own stupidity (though maybe if they just tried a little harder). :D
