Facebook Messenger for Windows

I tried to install the new Facebook Messenger for Windows, which according to what they say, works on Windows 7. I have the 64Bit Ultimate Edition btw.

But no matter if I download that Messenger directly on the Facebook page or from some other Website, I can't get it installed. I double click the file, Windows pops up and asks me (as usual) if I want to install that file, I say yes. Then you would think that something would come up next, but it doesn't.

When I check in Taskmanager, I see that the installation process just disappears out of the active Processes list after a few seconds. Everytime.

Has anyone else had a similiar problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Facebook Messenger installs the same way as Google Chrome browser - through connecting to the Internet after you click on the *.exe file and downloading-installing the needed files.

Upon double-click of the FacebookMessenger.exe file, I had my Security Software pop-up and ask whether I let the program connect to the internet. Then a window "Initializing dowload" appeared and the app got downloaded and installed on my PC (Win7 x64 Ultimate).

The fact that the "Initializing download" window does not appear after you double-click the *.exe could mean that your firewall automatically prevents the program from connecting to the Internet and downloading the needed installation files.

Make sure you manually let the *.exe file through your firewall. If you don't know what firewall you have or you have the default Windows Firewall active, read this:

Allow a program to communicate through Windows Firewall

Thank you, I did that. But didn't help. I dont have problem with other Tools that install and need to download files from the Internet. Just this one won't come up. :(

Unfortunately, I am running out of ideas. Try to run the *.exe file as an Administrator and see whether the download/installation window will show up. If that fails, try to run the *.exe file in safe mode with networking enabled. Something in your system is preventing the download window to show up.
