How do I get rid of this annoying thing that often appears at the lower left of my Internet Explorer screen, just above the Start button? I can click on the X to reduce it but I want it gone.

Hi,
If this shows up on any particular website/s please post direct links to them so we might test the issue to see if it's normal or just your machine,
Some sites do have these share listings but usually they're located on the left or right of the webpage,

Which security suite do you have installed ?
Cheers.

Thanks for taking the time to analyze this.

Security is by Norton 360 (weekly full system scan) and weekly scans with Advanced System Optimizer which includes spyware and malware scans.

Regarding the affected website(s)—MSN.com is my homepage. I think it only appears when I click on one of their links to a news story. It goes away when I click on the little house icon at upper right to return to my home page.

I reviewed my IE add-ons and disabled the suspicious ones. It didn't seem to have any effect on anything.

Hi thanks for the additional info,
The only popup I get is the bing search on the bottom after scrolling down the page a bit,
I followed several news stories with no share popups as you posted :(

Please post a screen shot of the show all add-ons page possibly we might spot something,
Manage%20add-ons-Show%20all.jpg

You can also try clean boot to see if the issue is something local,
Clean boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179159-troubleshoot-application-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html
Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,
Cheers.

Thanks,
I don't have any nbc content on msn or my.msn which might explain why it's not happening for me ;)
I don't believe nbc is a default content on msn home page either ?
So I suppose the easiest thing to do is live with it or remove the nbc content from msn's home page ?
Cheers.

Look under EDITORS' PICKS.

I pasted the source code into Word, then did a Replace all on nbcnews. That got me 26 replacements - which equates to 13 such links. I guess that I got lucky. The bacon link was the first/only link that I tested. I did not readily see a way to stop the annoying overlay from appearing.

I've looked at non-nbcnews links and I'm not seeing that particular annoying overlay.

I think we're in agreement that it happens only when NBC content is selected. So it's likely that NBC generates it and we can't stop it. This was reinforced when I had the same results on one of my other computers and my Surface Pro2 (I usually don't visit msn.com when using them).

So—Thinking that I need to find another news site for my homepage, I searched and found this list with a similar add-on.

I don't think I'm neurotic (but I don't suppose it's possible to self-diagnose), nevertheless I they annoy me and I want to avoid them.

Thanks, all, for your help on this issue. I'm not going to tag it as resolved but I don't see that there's a solution, especially since the majority of users seem to be tolerant.

Hi,
If you really think about it nbc's is actually better placed,
Most others are in the way of menus or stories if placed on the left or right sides,
But I favor if the darn things are there they should be in the header not covering content.
But yea they are normal unfortunately,
Cheers.

One can stop that particular overlay from displaying...
...but forum rules prohibit me from mentioning how :-(
