Factory restore

Hello everyone...

I made 4 DVD's when I first bought my computer, so to do a factory restore do I put in disc one and turn off my computer and then boot it up. What is the correct way to do it.

Reason I know in the beginning I had a virus.

Now after a few minutes what ever program even IE I will get the following message " IE has stopped working, even in word the same message comes up. I have ran all kinds of security and they all come back clean.

I have ran Check disk, Sfc /scannow, check disc is ok, Sfc won't run.

So I think maybe I should run a factory restore but I want to do it correctly, I want to do it right the first time this is why I am checking here first.

It's like going to the doctor where you look for the best and this forum is the very best.

It should be that simple booting from first dvd make sure first you have data off the drive as you will loose everything

I do believe that Lenovo comes with a recovery partition. You would shutdown and boot back up and start tapping F11 to access it.

Assuming that you did a Windows system image to those 4 DVDs, you will need a Windows 7, 64 bit, recovery disk, or a Windows 7, 64 bit, installation disk to boot from. After doing a system image, Windows prompts you to create a recovery/boot disk. Hopefully you did, or you have, or can borrow, a Windows 7 installation disk.

You are right about the Lenovo, there is a icon on the windows start up wallpaper, it reads as follows.

System Backup,

System Recovery,

Create Recovery Disc,

It reads Lenovo Rescue System 3.0

If this has anything to do with the old virus, then all of the restore points would be useless.

Under the Lenovo Rescue system do I still need the disc's I made when I first got the computer. I thank you all for your help on this matter.

No, you wont need the disc's. That is a recovery partition holding the factory image of your system. It's not a restore point. You need to select System Recovery and follow the instructions. And NO... It has nothing to do with the old virus.

For your info.

There is no need to have a Windows 7, 64 bit, recovery disk.

The 4 DVDs s/he made is the full recovery disc.
But only allow 1 time Recovery disk.
After done, it do not allow another Recovery disk to made.

This is what happened in the past when i had HP Compaq.

The computer itself have the recovery partition.
This is if the HDD is totally failed, hence it always remind the user to create this Recovery disk.

I agree with Lance1

The DVDs you create is for in case the whole HDD failed.
Do keep this in case it do happen again, although it will create exactly the same recovery partition, etc.

If the recovery do not work, then last resort is the Recovery DVDs.

Beware: Factory recover erases all disk.
As you already created the recovery disks, you have two options.
- Normally on OEM installations, when booting, you can press a Fx key (F11 on some HP) and it will launch a interface to guide to a factory recover. If you enter BIOS it will also be there.
- Boot with the fist DVD created and it will launch a interface to guide to a factory recover.

After restore, be sure you have Win 7 SP1. If you don't, install it.

For the remaining updates:
KB3125574 contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016.
It’s single, Multi language, 488MB update file (msu). On a recent installation, you must have first to install KB3020369.

A Clean Install will not install the "Factory Bloatware".
It will be a clean install of the Windows OS only.

Recovering with the PC Manufacturer recovery media (DVD's) will install "Factory Bloatware".
It will install a lot of programs not included in the Windows OS.
This could be many unneeded/unwanted/trial programs.

This could make a difference in having 20, 30, or more processes running when starting Windows with a factory recovery vs. a clean install.
