Solved Factory shipped Win7 recovery disk real license?

Viewsonic distributed a Windows 7 Home premium recovery media disc with my Vpad10 tablet. Is this a full license Win7? Viewsonic did not provide installation code. I was unsuccessful with re-installation of Win7 after installation/deletion of Ubuntu. I did clean the HD before Win7 installation. When I attempt to install Win7 all I get is “Error” on a blank screen.

The COA will be on bottom base of tablet or under the battery.

To reinstall Windows 7 after Linux has been install, All Linux code must be deleted using the CLEAN ALL command.
As you have had linux on the HD you need do a Clean all & full format in command prompt.

It may be that the Recovery Disk only provides the means to do a factory restore, not an actual installation DVD -- which you trashed if you removed the Recovery partition when you installed Ubuntu.

If that partition is gone, you will need to contact Viewsonic to get full-restore media -- as you can not reinstall Wint from a Recovery CD.

Is this a WIn7 reinstallation DVD? Put it in a working computer, rightclick to Explore and post a screenshot of the folder contents using Snipping Tool in Start Menu. Screen Shots What is size on disk?

If it's Win7 DVD then it should be bootable to reinstall Win7 with Product Key on COA sticker. If a copy of WIn7 was preinstalled on the machine it must legally have a COA sticker showing it is Geniune Windows which also has the Product Key for reinstallation.

It appears to be a Win7 DVD with so try booting it to see what happens and report back exactly what happens including any error text verbatim.

Enter BIOS setup using key given on first splash screen to set DVD drive to boot first. After saving this setting, restart. Are you prompted to "Press any key to boot DVD?" This means it is a bootable DVD.

The combination of all the replies to my posted questioned allowed for the resolution of the problem; in addition to a little improvising for my part.

I used DBAN to wipe the hard drive on my Viewsonic tablet. http://www.dban.org/download The diskpart procedure just wasn’t intuitive, and didn’t want to invest the time.

Once my disk was cleaned I just shrugged my shoulders and thought “whatever.” I didn’t try to install Win7 with the Viewsonic recovery disk. The disk provided by Viewsonic is not an installation disk it is only a recovery/repair disk. The Viewsonic disk has the Vpad10 drivers. (I can get those from the internet anyway.) I used my Win7 Home Premium disk from my main computer for the installation. It is a full licensed Win7, that I preordered before Win7 release. This is a full installation license, not OEM. There is COA sticker with Product Key affixed to the bottom of my Vpad10. It is possible to get a Genuine Microsoft tag by registration or with running the recovery disk.

After all is said and done…I have an operational Win7 Vpad10. However, I am not able to get the touchscreen to work. Sigh! I am unable to find the driver on the internet or on the disks.

You can activate with the Product Key on Vpad COA sticker at Computer>Properties activation link.
