Failed installation resulting in rollback.

Hello,

So recently I've tried intalling Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on a new freshly made partition just for it. The installation firstly goes smooth, but when it reaches "Finishing the installation" part, it all goes wrong. First of all the screen wents black for couple seconds, then it goes back again, but the screen is all screwed up... weird lines all over the place, the background is black, all-in-all it's a complete massacre on the screen (In fact, the screen looks exactly like it would if there were incorrect video codecs installed). After that it crashes, and the Blue Screen with the whole crash statistics pops up, and it creates a dump file (or atleast that's what I think it does...), too bad it restarts immediately after, so I can't make out what's the error code. Then after it's done, the windows restart, and when the installer loads up again, it says that "Installation was not completed successfully, all the changes are being undone" or something among those lines, and then it rollbacks.

Perhaps the screen goes nuts because the video drivers aren't supported by Windows 7? They are a bit old... Couple years old I believe (it is because Asus did not release the newer ones, I check oftenly in high hopes...(yes I know that I should just get the ones from ATI, but those don't really work with this video card.. after the installation and reboot the screen goes mad (in exactly the same way as I mentioned it does after the vista installation) and I still have to use "Last good known configuration thru the F8 during boot-up). But would all that cause a rollback? I mean, I could go into a safe mode, and somehow acquire codecs that do work with 7.

The error log is completely empty, while setupact.log is full of errors (problem is, I don't know if they're crucial since it only says that it's either "info" or a "warning" line). I'm attaching all of the logs that I think have a meaning, and, supposedly the dump file that was generated during that blue screen.

Oh and by the way, I'm installing from a virtual drive created by Daemon tools. I have tried installing directly from HDD but the outcome was the same. (I don't have a 4GB USB Flash or a DVD drive, so it's the only way for me :/)

Try removing any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads, then try installing from the HDD...

Okay, I uninstalled it thru Daemons uninstaller and thru that Duplex one. Gonna give it ago.

Okay so, the installation was still unsuccessful (after the "Completing installation" the screen went wacko again), BUT I didn't get the BSOD this time. Removing Daemons really did solve it.

I still say that it has something to do with my video card / codecs.

Again, as in previous tries, I am getting a lot of these "info messages" IBSLIB SetNamedSecurityInfo failed! Error code = 0x2, when it's trying to copy files. Example :

Can you remove the video card and default to onboard video to complete install? If not, try booting into Safe Mode to update the driver.

Is it possible your vid card or a tv tuner are outputted to a tv or projector so that when their drivers load your monitor goes blank? This happens frequently.

Nope, the video card is directly connected to my monitor.

Okay... I will look around the internet and try 'n find a way how to do that. Thanks for the suggestion .

By the way, I looked at the ASUS's webpage for my video card, and the only selectable versions for my video card drivers were either XP, Vista or the older OSs. Might that have a meaning to all of this?

Try installing the Vista driver for your card, in Safe Mode if necessary. Or try to load it into the installer at Load Drivers prompt on "Where do you want to install Windows" screen.

Okay soo... I've tried using a guide on how to install win7 from HDD, by changing the bootsectors or whatever... (by setting the bootmgr from the DVD as the default windows one), that actually worked, but, again as before after the Completing Installation the screen went black, and then it just restarted, and kept doing the same.. I tried loading the vista drivers during the installation afterwards, nothing, gave me an error, and the installer wasn't able to load them. And the funny thing is that the rollback didn't occur after both tries, so I had to nuke the whole partition. So anyways, I'm done with windows 7, to hell with it. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me so far, XP is still the best afterall :/

There is always a solution - it just takes persistence and learning a lot more about your computer. No need to go back to XPired unless you lack the patience.

You might want to zero the entire HD to make sure nothing is on there that's interfering with install. You can use the maker's diag/repair disk to do this after testing your HD with full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Also remove all but 2gb of RAM, swap sticks, test your RAM.

Did you run the Win7 Upgrade advisor to see if your hardware is compatible? Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

What I do when I don't have any more time to troubleshoot is remove the HD to install Win7 in another machine, then return it to the problem machine where it often will start up, swap out all drivers and run fine.
