I started building my own pc little under a year ago and am still pretty inexpericenceed with this stuff.

I have had it going for some time now (about 3 Months) but recently spent 280 pounds on a new grapics card which i put in today.

What it consists of now:

AMD Athlon II X2 250
Corsiar 4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
Point of View Nvidia GTX 570
MSI 770-C45
Samsung HD103SJ 1TB 32MB 7200RPM SATA HD
Antec Truepower 650W PSU
Actric Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler
Antec 300 Case + two antec fans that came with the case
120mm Xilence Case Fan *3
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Other info:
Antivirus = Kaspersky IS 11
Monitor = Sony Bravia 32" TV

I, when planning this, thought that it would be an extremely good pc but found that it is really not alot better then my other much cheaper Dell Inspiron 546!:wallbash:

The most recent component i got was the GTX 570, i enjoy futureistic FPSs on xbox and thought this card would cope with Crysis, i installed that today and its ok, but nothing compared to the xbox, when i make the settings anthing high at all i get horrible lag worse than ever experienced on the xbox! but this computer cost over 3x as much! what is going on.

in the cusom pc 2007 benchmarks it got something sh*t like 750 and geek bench was only 3008. WEI is 5.9 but graphics is 7.3! (5.9 from harddisk)

i have done a little bit of research and the term "bottleneck" comes up alot, if i am the victim of this bottlenecking then which component is it?:miffed:

It seems to be ok with things like video conversion and the like but games it really falls down.

One thing that i have noticed is the components are quite cold CPU when not under stress sits at about 11-15 degrees, dont know if its related though i am in quite a cold room.

I started reading bit tech and buying custom PC from about 1/2 the way though and have follow some recomendations, i now worry about the components i chose myself when i didnt have so much money to spend such as the Motherboard and cpu.

Any help suggestions ideas possible upgrades would be greatly appreciated.

The aim buy the time this thread is over is to have me able to play crysis at an ok spec which out this bloody lag.

Thanks in advance.

Charlie

My only suggestions are:
Make sure you have the latest Bios.
Did it run better before adding the new Video card? If so, that may be an issue.
Also, most MSI boards come with auto OC switches on the MB. Make sure they are set to default level. They sometimes come OC'd.
Make sure the ram is in the correct slots.

Apparently there were problems with the MB and CPU as they have both been discontinued. Many users have said the MB takes much more power than it should. However, it seems to me that you have plenty of power. Also make sure everything in BIOS is set to default levels.

after running that benchmark i went in and played the game, still really bad.

So do you think its down to the CPU and MB?

Will they have a huge effect on my gaming performance?

Do not get caught up in chasing other people's stats. Also, if you're building a system soley bases on Crysis, that's the wrong approach to take and you will be spending a lot of money for a game that no matter the system, will cause it heartaches.

I know nothing about AMD systems, but looking at what you have isn't chop liver and that system should be good enough for todays games!

My two cents.

You can have a look at my guide for game tips if you think you're haivng issues - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

Good luck

The Athlon is probally the bottle neck it is almost the bottom line processor next to turion

maybe a athlon II X4 maybe run better or if you had a phenom chip you would even be better off

i thought about buy a new cpu but i have enough to buy a new mb and cpu so was thinking of going intel when the new chips come out soon. Good idea? i agree that the cpu is probably the weakest component but would that be the only thing that is effecting my gaming?

if you have enough for a mobo and cpu why not just go with the amd strong cpu and am3 board

be pretty good performance with out spending the big bucks you would with intel

but like (Sygnus 21) said if your bases is trying to run crysis lag free you are heading in the wrong direction that game is demanding and unless you plan to spend some serious funds i would not seek out the perfect way to run it

Check the actual game settings before playing. I'm not sure where they are as I don't have Crysis.
Make sure they are set to what I outlined in RED above in the game settings.
In Game settings may be set higher than Demo Benchmark settings.

If they are set "In game" already as above you may be able to set AA to 1x or Global Game Q to Medium or both.

Worth a try making the settings lower to play better.

intel seems to be a little more expensive any reason for that? i think i will upgrade my mb and cpu some time soon.

Well, because they are better processors than their AMD counterparts. AMD makes some good CPUs, don't get me wrong...I switch back and forth between Intel and AMD over many builds. But, currently, Intel chips are just a lot better than AMD, so they are more expensive. Intel has always been more expensive, also, because of brand-recognition (although AMD has probably caught up mostly in that regard).

If you are willing to wait for the Sandy Bridge line, you may pay a bit for it, but it is supposed to be a pretty revolutionary processor. If not, I recommend the i7 series (I use the 950), which is being sold on sale a lot of places since the SB will take it's place very soon.

Also, I generally run Intel chips with Nvidia cards, and AMD chips with ATI cards. Could be just me, but I have noticed in the past that Intel works better with Nvidia cards and vice versa...don't ask me why that is, I haven't a clue what the reason would be. And as far as MoBos go...I would recommend an ASUS. I know money is always an issue with new builds (and a lot of times have been the primary factor in my choosing a build), but if you look around enough or wait for deals, you can put together a pretty nice rig.

The only thing I can see that needs change in that configuration is the CPU (maybe bottleneck your GTX 570 if at stock speed 3.1Ghz). Upgrade to a Phenom II X2/X4/X6 Black Edition and get an aftermarket cooler to overclock the CPU to at least 3.6Ghz and you'll be fine.
