My desktop set idle for a year, during my surgery and recovery from my latest back surgery (12th).
I started updating a few at a time, most worked. I have 5 that failed. But I can't back them out because now when I launch the update program it just searches - forever. I will attach a picture of my history.
Please help me get this fixed and up to date. I need this pc to be able to work from home. I need to have some sort of a life. I need your knowledge. Thank you in advance.

Regards,
pj

Hi PJ,
You DO NOT have a problem, ALL of those failed updates installed later in that run, if you sort them by KB no: you can see they succeeded!

However still follow PB's advice it will reduce the lengthy checking times.

follow up to pbcopter's instructions

First, thank you pbcopter and torchwood.

Now my results. pbcopter, I did follow instructions exactly. When I launched the first "Windows Update Stand Alone Installer" a box appeared that said, "Searching for updates on this computer". It never went past that, and I waited a very long time for it.

I kept them, in case I need them at another time. As of now, I am still stuck. Should I leave the update setting on "Never" still?

I am in you all's debt for trying. Is there a plan B?

Regards,
pj

Did you restart your computer after you set to never check for updates?

restart

Yes sir, I followed you instructions exactly. I changed it to never (had the big red X), restarted pc, and upon restart I double clicked the first file and waited. It just kept searching. I just checked and the red x is still there.
I will restart, after posting this, and try again. I appreciate the effort. Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

I see now

thank you for your help. I finally figured out the red x on the update page doesn't necessarily agree with the settings. it kept changing back from never. I was able to get both to go through. thank you.
