But I think I've been screwed. I rang up MS to see if they could assist - worse than useless, not a clue. But the Belarc software is good it reports Product ID as with a KEY of . So why doesn't MS pick this up at authentication as a fake ?
I'm guessing the ThinkPad had a Retail Win 7 OS which the seller has kept and palmed me off with the fake . The many many DCMA notices attest to the efficiency of the con with the fake Windows Ultimate.
eBay & PayPal will SLAP the seller & reverse the transaction.
Do i need this ?

sometimes this works.
Go to CHANGE Product key via Computer==> properties.
Enter the Key (not the product id).
This normally works.
