Fallout 3 on Windows 7.

I haven't had a problem with game yet and aside from installing the no cd patch after all the update patches the only other thing I'm doing any different from you guys is not signing in to games for windows before I start playing.

(IF you start a game not loged into games for windows live you can only play that while logged off, same goes for games you started while logged on will not be able to be played logged off)

If the errors are related to Games for Windows Live then maybe that's why I haven't had any problems, good luck guys, I just wish I could play COD online without getting kicked ;)

Mr Grim - and are you using 7 x64 build 7068..?

I have just removed the game from W7 and then reinstalled it and just applied the latest patch - now it crashes within 3 seconds of starting it up.!

I might be tempted even more now to try the x86 build.

BTW The live dll errors were related, in my case, to the fact that the game installs live and whether you are using it or not it is still one of the things that it checks for when launching.

Add me for another relatively trouble free player. I just re-installed it yesterday to see if I could replicate any of these issues. I can't

Cat 9.3
7068 x64
No Windows Live logging in.
Vitality 1.4 patch.

I still set user permissions to the fallout3 save game folder and run FO3.exe as admin. I can launch the game by either the Falloutlauncher.exe or FO3.exe.

The games only hung once when entering a building. Performance seems down a little with Cat 9.3 too.

Hmm...I installed and ran FO3 with almost no problems on 7068 x64. The only issue I have is the game crashes when I go to exit it.

Hey all, having issues as well, but I can perhaps offer something useful:

For anyone stuck with having to edit that special hyphen in the preferences file so their card works, there is a late-March driver out now for all you ATi users with no annoying ass hyphen.

However, now that I'm past that, I hang upon starting a new game. Someone on the official forums suggested the K-lite codec pack, which I'm giving a try right now. Also on my list is replacing all of the videos with null files.

I've looked through this thread already, but if I missed a fix for what may be the last thing stopping me from playing, please tell me! Thanks.

I thought the advice was to remove the k-lite codec pack. FFDshow in particular...

I'm not sure why but Fallout now seems to work since I have installed 7068 32bit W7. The only issue remaining is that it will crash when exiting to the main menu but exit fine when just closing the game without going to the main menu first, if that makes sense.

EDIT: Even that is working fine now, so I'm happy to write that as yet the game is running fine for me.

No need to remove it, blacklisting fallout3.exe should be more than enough. I do think that switching the selected audio device off of my Xonar DX helped significantly, since that card NEVER liked FO3.

I'm 30 hours in with very few problems, aside from bad lag when using VATS.
