hi all king tay here ive got win7 prem and have the games fallout 3 and colin mcrae dirt and thay wont run eny 1 help me with this prob please

to fix fallout 3 (without expansions)
Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3
Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

*If the game still crashes write this iNumHWThreads=1

run it in XP sp3 mode

Right Hand click on the .exe file and go to properties, change the operating system here. Change to run it as XP SP3 and go ahead and check the run as admin box while in properties.

This should fix you right up...

I installed everything just fine, and i can launch it, but when i select new game, and press yes i get the loading screen for a couple seconds and then a window pops up that says Fallout 3 has stopped working. what should i do?

I've been having this same problem... does anyone know how to fix it?

No, I do not use mods. I am using a store bought version on disc. Not sure if you guys are using bought or cracked but just so you know. Have you looked at the Bethesda site to see if they have added any updates that will fix compatibillity issues with Windows 7?

im not useing mods either my dad fixed it by changeing the compatability and switching the resolution to my screen size resolution but it started randomly messing up again idk y

is your game licensed or pirated version? and whats your fully specs? to tell you something since i upgraded my junk computer to modern and brought fresh Fallout 3/all Expansion and patched to latest version i dont get any single problems with it, you probably having a Virus? try scanning your computer with Avira not all problem are from game faults it could ba a virus that merging in your .exe that everytime you run your game the virus is activated

Hey guys need HELP!
Installed on Win 7!
Fallout 3 GOTY!
So all DLC are there and version 1.7!
First it crashed like hell so added some dll file and installed a unofficial patch!
And no crashing but now I got mouse freeze!
I go to Megaton!
And talk to NPC!
And freeze!
Everything else works in the background!
Pepl walk or talk!
But me stuck in time!
Pls can someone help!

ALso i have
2.9 Dual Core
Nvidia 9600 Gt 512
ANd 2 GB ram!
Also tried Xp compaability and vista also run as admin but no!

So I've run into a problem with this.

The game starts fine, I go to start a new game, the intro movies play, and I can get to the point where the screen turns white with splotches on it as you're being born, but that's it. It just hangs on that white screen until I end Fallout 3 with Task Manager. I can hear the beeping of the machines in the background and everything, but it stays on that white screen. Anybody have an idea of what's wrong?

Hey there! I have read most of this thread but couldn'f find anyone else with the same problem as mine. So if the situation I am about to tell has already been discussed I appologize.
Here's the thing : I bought Fallout 3 a few days ago but only tried to install it today. The problem is when I insert the DVD I get a message : "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select ok and restart application". I ran setup.exe and installed the game successfully. But when it came to running it it failed giving me this message : "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select ok and restart application".
I have also tried running the launcher and the fallout3.exe in compatiblity mode for win xp sp2 and win vista sp2 (as suggested in this thread) but that didn't do it. I patched the game to 1.4 but still nothing.
I have seen other people having this issue on the official fallout forums but there was no viable solution given there.
Can anyone tell me what else to do?

FO3 latest version is 1.7. Can try the latest patch see if that helps.

As far as the error you are getting, almost sounds as if the disc is a copy, and not the original and its asking for the original.
Being as you said its a original disc, thats a bit wierd.

Im not sure why it would be throwing that error.

It is an original disc. It came bundled with a games magazine I usually buy.
I actually disabled/enabled my dvd-writer and tried again running the game. Guess what...it didn't work! :huh:
Any other opinions?

Well it wasn't free. The magazine has another price usually The game is in a box as you can find it in a game store. But what has this have to do with anything?

Oh,nothing. I misunderstood.
You said it came bundled w/a magazine and I thought you meant you bought a magazine and the game was free.
Was thinking I need to start getting that one

The only thing I can suggest is browse the disc for the setup.exe and set it to compatabilty mode (Windows Vista SP1)
Then, run the the setup.exe as administrator.

Do not let it autorun.

Once its installed, see if you can get to the main menu. At this point you'll need to register your key with games for Windows, and it should download the newest patch.

Alternatively, you can manually download and install patch 1.7, before launching the game the 1st time.

Maddox, I have the LEVEL magazine-given copy of Fallout 3. My copy works in its basic form from the DVD, but there are... issues. LIVE doesn't activate. I press the bloody LIVE button and it does nothing but stand there until I rescind the command.

Secondly, patching doesn't work either. I try patching to 1.7 with a downloaded patch (since I can't use LIVE), and it runs up to 100%, opens the game, and when I check to see the version, it's the same as in the beginning, and nothing happens until I close the game, at which point the patching program closes. If I Alt-Tab out of the game to see what the patcher is doing, I'm greeted with 2 blank windows that go non-responsive as soon as I click them.

I've tried running with a Win7-suggested compatibility setting of WinXP sp2. The patcher says that it can't find the correct CD, and that I should insert it and try again... naturally the DVD was still in the optical unit all that time. I wonder if a pirate .iso file might do the trick.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Oh, and another thing, Madoxx. I tried to go to the LEVEL forums and ask them about their bulls*it game disc, because it seems I already had an account there from times immemorial. For some reason I can't post on their forums, even though the admin says I'm not banned or anything. Would you be so kind as to try and inform them of our problem?
