Solved fan speed is to slow

Hello evreyone,

First of all im not good in english.
i am having some trouble with my laptop fan,
when i am gaming it will go all fine untill the core (intel i3) is getting hot, then the game is running bad it are getting pictures (60 FPS to about 3-4 FPS) and i have downloaded a few programs to see the core temp, and it is 85 degrees Celsius when it reaches 90 degrees Celsius then the fan is comming to action and cools it and then the game is running fine again untill it is getting hot again.
how can i increase the fan speed so the games arn't running slowly?

Hello and welcome mastergast mate you are in danger of burning out the CPU and / or the machine that temp is way too high I consider 50C a bit too high on my lappy.

The fan is speeding up because the temp sensor in the CPU is telling it to and it is also shutting itself down for that same reason.

Mate you need to seriously think of getting the machine cleaned out real quick as the small cooling radiator sounds as if it is blocked with dust and crud - there is no alternative!!.:shock:

that is not the problem. i allready cleaned it up from dust, but there are programs like: speedfan, or rivatuner that can control the fan. but they arn't working, i tried evreything allready and no result so i came to this forum in hope you guys know a option so i can controll my fan manualy. the fan is getting into action when my laptop is getting realy hot, but that is not my biggest problem, becouse i can't game when it is getting hot the game is so laggyy then.:shock:
so you have any options to control the fan manualy?

None that I know of mastergast sorry mate but I would be happier if you could elaborate on how you cleaned it out as most I have had to do are only properly cleaned out by removing the bottom panel and removing the cooler system and giving it a thorough clean, cleaning the fan thoroughly, and also redo the thermal compounds. Just blowing it out doesn't cut it with me.

Just how old is the machine as I have found some Toshiba's (mostly) and others which have thermal compounds really hard even after three years and the graphics chip well it's compound just like a piece of rubber - useless.

The other thing I was wondering too is has this been happening since new? and / or only since you have been doing some serious gaming?

my machine is about 3 years old.
but it has been doing this from the 2d week or somthing.
just to be clear the fan is waiting for the verry last moment before it burns then it is comming into action.
so i need somthing to speed up the fan manualy or make shure it is blowing early enough so is doesn't lagg anymore.

Well might I respectfully say that you should have taken it back when you first bought it as that is a very abnormal function.
The fan speed is dictated by the temp that the core is running at - at any one / given time in any machine and there is no way that I know of that you can manually change the speed in a laptop.

The only speed controls for fans I have seen are the ones that one can install in (typically) a desktop machine. These devices are really quite large by their very nature and there is no way you could fit one in a laptop - even the small types that are usually about the size of a matchbox.

Now I stand to be corrected on there not being a software that can do what you want and also on anything that I have stated but I honestly think there is something very wrong with the machine especially the fan speed control via the core temp.

I don't want to sound rude but have you referred it back to the manufacturer or the dealer you got it from? if not then I would advise that you do it will not cost you anything to ask and like I said I could be wrong but I am fairly certain that I am not.

Ok I have been onto a mate and I stand corrected the Speedfan can be used but he has not had much luck with it. There is another MSI Afterburner you can try. I do notice that the machine comes with 4GB RAM too I think that maxing that out to 8GB would help out with the "overload" if you don't want to do that then try testing the memory with memtest Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool - make a bootable disk and set the BIOS to boot from optical and let run for at least 8 passes. If that comes up bad then replace if not go for extra RAM.

Just be aware that if you do manage to get the fan spinning up as fast as it can it is going to reduce it's life span and be very noisy.

I hope this works for you but personally now laptops are getting very reasonable in price I would be looking at one with a little more "grunt"

In my opinion you and your friends need better machines to play games on. A laptop with a i3 is low end and definitely not intended for gaming other than solitaire with the low end CPU and graphics chip.
I suspect you fan is already spinning its little heart out at full speed, it's only 25-30mm.

Thanks you Erick I was trying to say this right from the very first post only in a slightly less blunt way and perhaps appeal to common sense but I think Britton said it all really - sad to say.

I have to agree that sometimes people find it painful to hear that their computers are too.... humble to carry one some intensive tasks they wish to perform.

But it is difficult to explain this at times, nobody likes to hear their investment is not as profitable in terms of productivity as they may have felt about it at first.

I'm sad to say the cause of all this might be the gaming market. Pasting the word ''Gaming'' into hardware has created some kind of exclusive stature for computer users.

Yes mate I agree you have made a very good point there in that there are those ready to make the buck when they know it cannot deliver the goods.

I think it is immoral and cynical and so completely unfair on those they "prey" on because it isn't preying in the true sense of the word because they use hollow and premeditated semantics to cover their tracks.:sarc:

yeah i allready have 8GB ram i bought it a few months ago but that doesn't make any difference it is still getting laggy when it is getting hot.
i tried MSI afterburner it looks pretty good but there is still the same annoying problem...
i can't controll the fan speed again
i installed it on my dad's computer and also same problem with speedfan,and afterburner.
got any ideas for that?
my friends pc: same problem friend's laptop: same problem. my dad's computer: same problem with afterburner. i allready searched the internet for that they are saying press setings and under the tab FAN but there is no FAN tab

MSI is for GPU fan speed, not CPU fan speed.
Laptop fan speeds are set up by the manufacterers, and are rarely, if not never able to be modified.

As I said, drop some load from the harware, or invest in a cooling pad, but I have to say you might be demanding too much from your computer at this stage..

I would back off and either start saving for a tougher computer.. or put a typhoon fan under the laptop.

yeah that is not realy why i posted this tread...
bcs i have allready a cooling standard but that is somtimes not enough,
my biggest question was: can i speed up the fan manualy. bcs when it is automatic it is responding to late to get in action most of the time my laptop shuts down bcs overheating so the fan is kind of lazy to blow so i need a program/option to fix it.
i allready have programs like you guys said MSI afterburner/speedfan/rivatuner and, they arn't detecting a fan.
if there isn't any option then i would like to thank you guys and say this tread closed.

I would invest in a good forced air fan based cooling pad and it may only postpone the needed upgrade it at least will move to the new lappy when this happens. I run my i3 on a stand like this and that helps a ton.

Well mastergast I have done all I can - me I personally would invest in a machine that has a bit more grunt as I said before and I think that small laptops are just not really going to cut the mustard if you are going to game hard.

As for the cooling pads well all well and good but do you want to cart that around with you if you go elsewhere and game? If you are not intending doing that then might I again respectfully suggest you build yourself a decent desktop? You get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and believe me it is not that hard if I can do it you can. Plus you can customise it to your exact needs.

The laptop is something that cannot be modified in any real sense part from the CPU and RAM (if possible) but I am not going to say that is what you have to do just I think it is a much better option. If budget is a concern the build could be done in stages and there are froum member stta will come out of the woodwork to help you.
