Good morning.

So ah, I'm a bit confused.
When I installed Windows 7 about a month ago, I installed the driver for my Graphic card which Windows Update forced me to install.
I also have the Nvidia Driver from Nvidia's website. Ok, so I have 2? Hmm.. If I skip the one from Windows Update, some fades on bootup will not appear. That's what happend.

So which driver should I uninstall/reinstall. I don't know if it's normal you update the one from Update, and then Nvidia's.

Use whichever you like, ultimately only one driver will be functional. Only, the nvidia driver may have more bells and whistles.

I would use the nvidia driver personally. The windows update provided drivers for graphics are very often outdated.

I think, (unless Nvidia updated their drivers) that if I only use Nvidia's from their site. I'll have that fade issue on start-up. I can imagine more the more from Windows Update will be more functional, why? well. Microsoft owns the OS and I think they know what's working for Win7 best.

But I should totally not have both. Should I? I had a lot of game issues lately.

Odds are, MS is giving you the driver for the "built-in" graphics card on your motherboard. Go with what you KNOW you have. I agree with the post above, Windows will only use one.

Also in the case of nvidia and ati MS IS using the drivers provided from the manufacturers, they are just using older versions. Or they are using a generic, which will result in poor to no 3d application support.

If you are not a gamer it is not really a concern, if you are it could lead to issues in certain games down the road.

I downloaded the newest Nvidia driver, still a couple of errors because I have the one from Windows Update. How to uninstall a Windows Update? I followed your guide on this forums about it, but the Nvidia one doesn't list when uninstalling. I can find the driver in the update history, but I can't find it while selecting which ones to update!

Very appreciated. Now, is there anyway to disable to, for taking an example, you remove a driver, and it's running low resolution, Windows will choose a driver for it. How to disable this?
Because if it's installing when I remove the Windows Update one, it will install a driver again which I didn't ask for.

Is this called.. Auto Updating or something? It is not through Windows Update. It just says it is downloading GTX260 Nvidia driver in the explore bar.

It shouldn't matter much between what Windows Update brings you versus what you get from Nvidia. Nvidia will likely have a newer version, but if you are having an issue across driver revisions, you should look for another cause.

If it was me, I'd use Driver Sweeper to clear out all the old drivers, then follow it up with a CCleaner reg scan. Then I'd reboot and install the lastest from Nvidia and go from there.

But again, after I rebooted, it will install drivers itself, wouldn't it? It happens quite a lot here

Let me get this straight, so if you uninstall drivers (nvidia for taking an example), and use the control panel by removing it, it will appear again. But if I use Driver Sweeper, it won't install again? Or does this only count for the Windows Update one I have?

You're the one stating they will reappear again. I haven't seen this happen since going to Windows 7. I'm not sure why, but you seem to be making this a much more complicated process than it really is. When I need to upgrade my Nvidia drivers, I remove the old ones using the control panel, reboot, run CCleaner, and then install the latest ones from Nvidia's site that I already had downloaded.

There isn't a right or wrong way of doing it. Just get the old ones off before installing the new ones, and you're done.

Yeah, sorry for complications. I know, you can uninstall Nvidia drivers like no problem. It's a way harder with the Windows Updates ones, especially when they ain't in the Update History for un-installation.

Basically, I want to avoid Windows to install the whole thing automatic.

Windows Update drivers don't get installed unless you run Windows Update, or instruct the computer to go online and look for drivers.

Yeah, I'll tick the Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.

Umm.. Nah not like that.

It's basically more like getting Windows not installing drivers automatic. And also, remove them in a right way.
But thanks for your commend, i'll post the fix tip if I have one so other people can see what's the solution is. I'm sure it will be helpful

Okay, i'm finally home today. So i'll just make sure I have this right.

Is Driver Sweeper only for removing trash and un-needed left drivers, or can I actually use it for the Graphic Driver in the Windows Update to remove it when it is there? It will be a lot easier if I just can remove it while it's there with Driver Sweeper, otherwise it will have to be a mess like Windows can't detect your card and stuff.
