Is it possible to plug my fax machine (15 years old ) into my computer. I wondered if I plugged it into my power bar that has a phone line input and a modem input. Then I could fax from my computer using Win 7 scan and fax built in program.
I am dreaming or is this possible ?
Thanks in advance.
First off 15 years is ages in technical terms... no way would Win7 have drivers for something that ancient! Secondly, it sounds like this is a dedicated fax machine that was never meant to interface with a PC... so a definite NO WAY!

now could you suggest what I would have to purchase to make my HP Win 7
8 gig Dual core able to send and receive faxes. I do not fax too often. I do have a HP PSC 750 that works great.
Thanks again

Since you have a phone/fax line, and you have a multi-funtion printer you are good thanks to Win7's built in fax and scan software.
just plug in a phone line from wall to your PC's modem (if no modem in PC, then thats all you need to buy). TO find out more about Win7 fax and scan, click start and type fax into the search bar at the bottom... then click on Fax and Scan from the list.

Maybe there's still a chance that you CAN do it. I've got an old (10 years old, or thereabouts) HP printer/copier/scanner that is alive and kicking, and plugged right into my laptop. Granted, that particular computer is running Vista --- but check out all the options before you definitely rule out the possibility of utilizing your old fax machine. The question is, does your fax have a USB port????

A "15 year old" fax machine, if it has any PC interface probably is not USB. A new inexpensive fax machine can be bought for $30 HERE That would be the better way to go for an "occasional" fax.

I have a phone jack in the back of my computer ! So If I plug a phone line into it from the wall is that all I have to do? do I still give my phone number to receive faxes on my old machine ??
EDIT :
I was wrong it is labeled 1392 and my phone line won't fit in it.
It is still pretty common to have an ethernet port and a phone line port on a computer. If yours does not have one I will be surprised. If it does, your computer would basically replace your fax machine.

Thanks for all the help and advice.
