My old PC had an internal telephone card for old style internet dialup and sending faxes, Although I moved to local network based broadband, the card was very useful for sending/receiving faxes.
My new machine using a Gigabyte P55M UD2 board does not have such a card.
What is the best way for me now to be able to send/receive faxes ?
Ive seen the USB modem dongles (about£15-20) but can they do fax ?, they seen to be broadband only- true?

Hi Jules59.:)

Unfortunately the dongles you describe are not capable of sending a fax from Windows 7.

To be able to send and receive faxes with Windows Fax and Scan, your computer must either be connected to a fax server that’s part of your computer network or have a phone line connected to a fax modem installed on your computer.

There are plenty available, however, I suggest that prior to purchasing one, you visit the Windows 7 Compatibility Center and check that it is fully Windows 7 compatible.

Hope this helps.;)

I use HP Photosmart Premium C309 both at home and the office. Very good network printer / scanner (LAN, WiFi & Bluetooth) and an excellent fax. I use WiFi for network printing and connect the device directly to phone / fax line for fax, using third party application to send and receive from Win7.

C309 is fully Win7 compatible and installs drivers automatically.

A plus is that you can print directly to CD's and DVD's in full color (needs of course printable disks).

I really recommend.

Ive found a fax modem USB dongle:
"Zoom 3095 fax-modem USB external dongle" from Dabs.com, £15 delivered in 2 days.
Easy install. Now I can send faxes from Word or direct from the scanner.
Just what I needed.
