Once again on my 4 main PC's this setting was changed to Download and install automatically.:mad::mad::mad:
I have upgrades turned off in Groups Policy and the registry settings set not to download or upgrade the OS. M$ seems to want to override these settings.

The only time I've personally seen those settings change is after running third party software that checks for updates. Comodo Programs Manager was one such program. Also there are a few others.

Suggest:

Check settings here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

Here's mine:

I use a real time registry monitor that prompts me to accept changes when important keys are modified.

You can see that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU is one of the many keys that are monitored.

Just a thought!

I've seen more than one thread where update settings changed and AVAST was involved. Here is one... but I just skimmed the first post. (avast internet security pro)
I did have some issue with Avast's Deep Scan setting.
I can't remember what the issue was (it must have been something obvious, like a loss of HDD space).

I'll have to see if I posted about it.

Additional
It was a System Restore issue.

I completed our monthly patch cycle on 6 Win 7 boxes yesterday. Went with all the important items and dropped these two from the optional page:

KB2952664 This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows.

KB3123862 The update adds capabilities to some computers that lets users easily learn about Windows 10 or start an upgrade to Windows 10.

But installed this one on all machines : KB3135445

Since it applies to Windows Server 2008 R2 as well as 7 Pro - it should be fine. There is no "win 10" threat to Windows Server 2008.

Running GWX Control Panel after all updates on all machines revealed no changes, no signs of any Win 10 stuff or any changes to reg keys etc.

Good til next month...:)
