May 2016 Windows security update release

Today we released security updates to provide additional protections against malicious attackers. As a best practice, we encourage customers to apply security updates as soon as they are released.

So far so good,
They say KB3153731 is optional in it's description but as to why it's listed as a Important update is interesting

I had 17 too, my office ones were for 2010 though. On my little laptop I just recently got.

Probably an hour or a little more, to check, download and install all in one batch.

No failures and SFC comes back with no integrity violations.

That's all I care about.

I had 20 windows updates installed today.

Yep both my asus and laptop got the updates shortly after start up
Acer still has not pulled them up yet
I don't believe sfc has ever found any integrity violations even if I know something is obviously off

Acer finally found them
I uninstalled net 4.6.1 and reinstalled net 4.5.2 yesterday
Updates found by it's self 10 Important updates yesterday soon after reinstalling 4.5.2

Then this morning auto found 19 Important updates
Net framework seems to be funky and unpredictable which will work best
My asus still has 4.6.1 on it

Call me paranoid (they really are watching me) or tell me I don't have a life (because I really don't), but I never install more than 5 updates at a time. I keep track of the KB numbers in that particular group. After installation I reboot and make sure all is well. Makes it a lot easier to figure out which update out of 5 hosed my computer if something goes wrong rather than trying to figure out which update out of 20+ is the culprit.

I installed all KB excerpt KB2574819, which I don't need.
SFC /SCANNOW found no problems.
Things are still good after running Disk Cleanup.

May 2016 DST update for Azerbaijan, Chile, Haiti, and Morocco in Windows

I'm guessing the time zones updates are classed as important as they would be if you live in Azerbaijan. :roflmao: Also if you're travelling to another country.
I suppose they just keep it classified as that for all regions. I can't see why a time zone update would cause any problems though?

I also avoided KB3153731 a while back.
I have no need for them. I'm not going to drag my desk top there and I'm not going to be doing business in those places either.

Yea I believe the time zone additions are pretty normal just not sure why the article states optional :/
Sounds like another false classifications and should of really been recommended not important ?

One of these updates killed my gadget for The Weather Channel...seems unable to connect to server now.
Any idea which update is responsible?

It's been on my desktop for many many years...never an issue...thx MS!

Could be the Cumulative Security Update for IE (KB3154070). I don't know for sure though.
Somebody in another thread said it was affecting their Internet connection and everything was fine again after they uninstalled it.
Another thread said that it completely messed up their Internet Explorer as it wouldn't connect to any sites. I haven't had any issues, but I've never used the gadgets.

Had a laptop with current update have no internet whatsoever. Couldn't access LAN either. Linux boot and no such issues. Did a system restore to pre-update state wiping everything updated and allowed update to reapply. All is good for now.

The day to cut windows loose forever is approaching fast.
