FF - Classic Theme Restorer may be dead by the end of 2017

It looks like Mozilla have resumed their quest to make Firefox totally irrelevant.

Mozilla announced a couple of days ago that it plans to make Firefox support only WebExtensions add-ons by the end of 2017.

While that seems far far away right now, it is almost certain that things won't be ready by then. What I mean by that is that WebExtensions capabilities won't match those of Firefox's current system.

While popular add-ons like NoScript will likely be ported over thanks to Mozilla working with developers actively on implementing missing API features, the same cannot be said for other add-ons.

Soon there won't be even a single usable browser left.
The latest Pale Moon (27) is horrible on my PC (takes at least 10 seconds to load).
God only know how long it would take if you tried to run it from a HDD.

Seems like Google has "won the Internet" and everyone will be forced to use the abomination that is Chrome.

Maybe I'm not understanding things.
Mozilla is cleaning out some extension and maybe some plug in's.
I'm not seeing that as a problem.

What am I missing?

Classic Theme Restorer is the one add-on that makes the new FF GUI (since v29) bearable.

If I wanted to use Google Chrome, I'd install Chrome.

I've never used Classic Theme Restorer. All I have ever done is use a theme for the buttons ("Past Modern Revisited, Reloaded"), and customized by adding the Menu Bar. In Win 7, I use Classic GUI. My only add-ons that have anything to do with the FF GUI is "Download Status Bar" and "Hide Tab Bar With One Tab", and this is what I end up with.

It turns out that add-on compatibility issues caused the long start up time.

My PM now starts in ~2 seconds.

Mostly I use Cyberfox with CyberCTR but I also have Firefox portable and Palemoon portable handy.

I find these extensions useful:

eCleaner :: Add-ons for Firefox

Clears preferences left behind by extensions after you've uninstalled them. Basics - check for anything that you know you have removed then delete the leftovers.

about:addons-memory :: Add-ons for Firefox

Check memory usage by addons.

Personally I only enable addons when needed and disable anything that I don't need every session.

I have 9 add-ons installed and I use them in 20+ FF/PM profiles (including XP & Linux Mint installs and my VMs).

Hi:

I agree, CTR has made post-Australis Fx bearable.
I don't use many of the tweaks, but there are a few that are crucial to my Fx UI/UX.

I hope we will not see its demise.
