Hey Guys! You have helpt me before when I have had Win 7 problems, so i think its a good idear to see if you might be able to help me tsraight this issue out as well!
Im gonna try to explain this as good as i can in my crappy english, so have patience ;)

My friend is running on windows xp at the moment. And i had a win 7 Beta key, that i werent using and an installation disk. So he had just baught a new harddrive, and we started the installation.

Ive booted with the disk, made all the partions and formated the whole thing. Then i started to install.. first time it didnt even start the installation before it froze. Then ive restarted the PC and tryde again. Second time the whole thing froze after 17%. Then I tryde some different settings in the BIOS, but nothing workt. So I reset the BIOS to default. And tryde again. Same crap.

Then I got a bit frustrated after a couple of hours and movde the drive over to my PC. Started the installation, and everything workt like a charm. Then I moved it back over to his PC and started the thing up. The PC loaded win 7 fine, all the way to the moment before it was suppose to show the desktop. Then it bluescreend and died.. again....

Today, he managed to get a Win 7 Retail version with a valid key. And the same thing happends. This makes me wonder what problems hes PC might be having?
The PC is pretty new and he plays all the latest games on it so it shouldnt have any problems running Win 7. But the wierd thing is that the installation disk works on my PC, and i have used it twice to install my PC. But hes computer cant handle the Beta version or the Retail.

What should i do, and where do i begin to check?

Thanks guys for taking time to help me :cool:

This is what i tried so far.

I hookt up a new CDrom, and i have reformated the harddrive before the installation. The thing is that as soon as it start to extract files, after 15% the CD rom just dies and the PC just freezes. Have to reboot to be able to change anything after that.
Tried with just 1 RAM, and made a diognastics test on that and it dosent show and wierd things. Tried with a new DVD-rom, and i have disabled everything that couldt possible make any difference to the installation.

Im gonna try to move the files over to a USB stick and boot from that to see if there is any change. After unhooking everything there is only the grapichs card, RAM and motherboard left hookt up.

Any of you guys heard anything like this before? :(

What is the SATA controller set at in BIOS?

What was the prob with RAM test? Test each RAM stick with memtest 86 to isolate bad RAM and remove.

Burn to CD the DOS diagnostics for your HD from maker's Support Downloads webpage. Run full scan and then zero HD. Let Win7 installer auto-format HD during Copying Files phase.

Try the flash stick install method to see if it makes a difference. Use UltraISO trial version to write ISO to stick using Bootable tab. Stick will be listed under HD's on BIOS boot menu.

So far....

* We have a new harddrive.
* Default loaded BIOS settings, (except the bootlist)

We start the installation, and the PC boots from the CD with out any problems.
- The installation starts, and freezez on the "extraction chapter" sometimes on 15% sometimes and 30 and so on.. The DVD-Rom just stops spinning and everyting fades out. Only way to be able to do anything is to restart the PC.

We have tested with:
* No unnecessary things hookt up to the PC
* New grapich card
* New RAM (have made diagnostics on the old ones and it didnt shoe anything)
* New DVD-rom player

All with the same results..

Tryde as just a test to install the harddrive on my rigg just to be sure that it aint because of the Win 7 CD, and there was no problem with either the evaluation version or the retail Win 7.
And since we pretty much have exluded all other things except the motherboard, it kinda betas me here. When i tryde the installation on my rigg I just went trough with it and had no issuses at all. I cant really figure it out. Have installed Win 7 on many other riggs and i have never had any problems what so ever with the installation.

Im gonna check all the details and brand modells on the PC that we are trying to install it on and see if it might help you guys figure it out.

Im havinga a feeling that we have overlookt something and perhaps made a really normal error. But i cant really see what that should be. But if that is the case im gonna go straight back to fakkin consolegaming and never touch a PC again ever, cause we have bin at this for 3 days now, haha =)
