Solved File Copy Utilities

Any recommendations for a good file copy utility that copys files accurately and speedier than Windows?

i use robocopy. I like it because it only copies files that have changed between the source and the destination....so I use it for making data file backups.

There's also Teracopy. But Robo would probably be better since it's already built into Windows.

I have had good results with Microsoft Synctoy. Once you back it up the first time it onlycopies the changed folders.

Sorry for the delayed response...long day. Thanks for your recommendations. I should have been more specific, but my purposes don't require syncing (when I do, I use SyncToy). I keep many rotating and occasional full Acronis images which range in size from 10GB to 30 GB. These get regularly copied (dragged and dropped) to a backup server and multiple bare sata drives using an esata dock. Do any of these have any advantages in that scenario? Apologies for the ambiguity.

James, I probably don't understand what you are wanting to do. But, if you use synctoy I'm sure you know that you can create as many folder pairs as you want thus sending the same backup to different locations with different folder pairs. Other than something like that, I don't have any suggestions except that I think that would be faster than drag and drop.

I've been thinking along the lines of manual copying, as I do now in Windows, but you all have given me something to think about. Can I make syncing work for me to a greater degree, given the variety of files and backup options I use? [/rhetorical] Teracopy looks more like what I was thinking about, but I understand that RoboCopy has different GUIs? Anyway, I've got a lot on my plate these days (that's plate, not pate...), but I guess I'm just going check out the options submitted and actually think this one through :shock:. Thank you for your suggestions.

Update: I've been using Teracopy and it does what I need, plus it's shell integrated. Thanks for all recommendations.

Hi CZ. I did look at RoboCopy, but settled on Teracopy because there was no learning curve as there would be with RC, which, at the moment, is important. I do plan on revisting as my needs grow more comples and require a more comprehensive file copy utility. Thanks for the suggestion.
