File - Cut & Paste: disappears?

I was transferring several 3GB files from one computer to another over a wired network. On one file, about 80% through, a message box came up saying there was a problem with the transfer. Two options: "Try Again" and "Cancel".

Hit "Try Again", the progress bar finishes, and the file disappears from both computers. Search of entire hard drives finds nothing.

What happened and why?

Recovery software will probably not help me because both disks have been written to since the error.

Might be stupid question but did you try and undo it?

How do you undo a file transfer?

If the search of both hard drives didn't find the file, then the files will be gone (especially as you wrote to the disc afterwards)

Not sure exactly what happened, most likely some form of corrupt file and being as you cut & paste the file, it didn't have one location (like when you copy & paste something)
