What kind of noise? You might consider running HD Tach or HD Tune.

EDIT: Also, if you have SpeedFan installed, open the Smart tab on the main interface and select the harddrive in the dropdown window. It gives you a lot of into on the device.

Hi Charlie, Welcome to SevenForums!
Try to delete the file, and wait for the "recycling" window to appear.

While it's up, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager.

End the task explorer.exe and wait a moment; your desktop will disappear.

Enable explorer.exe (click File, New Task, and type explorer.exe) and your desktop will reappear.

Right-click the desktop and choose refresh.

Now try to delete the file again.

Thanks,
ZeshanA

I would back up that drive ASAP .. it sounds like it may be on the way out... Healthy drives do not make funny noises and cause a reboot... Forewarned is Forearmed...

I agree with Tews. After backing up, download the tools provided on the disk manufacturer's site for testing hard drives.
