File Manager Popup Menu

When I'm in the file manager and right click on a folder, the NEW popup menu now has 2 sub-menus: Folder and Briefcase.

Is there anyway to remove the Briefcase selection so that only the Folder is available? In Vista I could do a menu popup on a folder and click New to create a new folder - in Windows 7 this is now a two step operation so I don't consider this to be an improvement.

I'm not sure of what you mean, but you can right click on a empty area in the main window and click on New and Folder to create a new folder.

With Vista this was a one click operation: Just click on New and it was a Folder - now it's a two step process.

I'll have to use @sharks comment and click on that button to create a new folder.

Microsoft needed to be careful not to cause us to use *more* steps to get the same job done in W7 vs Vista. They missed the mark on this one. I'd at least want the option to remove all the menu items in the pop up because I only want to select a folder, right mouse click and then select New Folder and not have another sub menu to go through.

While the button at the top is a one click solution, it causes me extra work because after I select my folder I have to move my mouse up and click on the button - again, keeping the mouse pointer on the selected folder and doing a right click and immediate selection is preferred (in my opinion).

I'll always consider this to be a step backwards in W7 over Vista.

But thanks to everyone for helping me. Overall, so far I like W7 over Vista.

I'm sorry, but it's the same way in Vista for me as in Windows 7 except that Windows 7 adds the New Folder button as Orbital Shark posted above. Where are you clicking on New at?

I don't have Vista installed anymore as I installed W7 over it but, I used to select the folder and then right mouse click and select New (with no sub menu) to create a new folder - it was easy and very quick.

I know it seems like I'm nit picking but in W7 it's one additional action I have to take to so the same thing. Microsoft should be looking to *reduce* the steps to do things, not *add* to them.

If you want to get a little trick, you can do it in all keystrokes.

Application Key > W > F

i know its not what you are looking for but you don't have to move you had off the KB.

If you dont have an application key, in explorer press

Alt > F > W > W

That's ok. I was just curious about it since I can't seem to get that optio to appear for me doing what you described.
