file send link email grayed out

when I click, file,send the page or link by email are grayed out.
I have tgried in vain to use the current advice to go to control panel, default programs to try to fix it with no results, I want to use gmail or google as my default?

I'm only guessing, but default "Programs" are just that...programs. That is applications that run on the local PC like WLM (or previously OE or WM). Gmail is a web based email service you use through a web browser. It may be possible to do what you want...perhaps search the fourm for "make gmail default".
