I have a windows 7 machine which I used as a print server and also accessing software installation media for installing. what is the best way to disconnect a session and how do I know how many session are currently on the machine.

Right click Computer and Manage. Expand "Shared Folders" and there is the Sessions.

Depending on what versions of Windows is involved and depending on if you have admins rights, you might be able to look up the number of sessions while sitting at another computer:



Connect to the file server then drill down as GokAy suggested.

I fail to remember that you can connect to other PCs from there

Another method would be, especially if you have more than 1 PC to administer:
- Win+R, then, mmc
- File - Add/Remove Snap-in
- Scroll down and select "Shared Folders" - Add
- Select Local COmputer for the PC you are physically using - Finish
- Add another snap-in - shared folders - select "Another Computer" - browse or name or IP
- Add
- Save the console to where you want

Most of the file servers that I work with have no monitor/keyboard/mouse (i.e. headless).

So, remote connections for most everything.


Configuring/Saving the console is a good idea.

Walking all the way to the servers would be a waste of time as well, even though a good exercise, everytime even if they had monitors etc. And most likely they are in a protected/restricted area.

Custom console windows are the best.
