File sharing conundrum

Hey there,

I hope you'll bear with me repeating what seems to be answered many times, but I'm having a problem with my windows 7 network, and I'm hoping someone here can help me shed some light on it.

I have a home network with 5 computers. One of the computers (my girlfriend's) has a shared drive that all the other ones can access, except one (mine). When i try to access it, it says I don't have permission to access the drive. I'm not using homegroups, and I have shared the drive using advanced sharing. I made sure that everyone has full access to the share but I still can't connect. I've been googeling around for a few hours now and I haven't found anything that was all that helpful. I ran updates on both computers, and even applied a rather sketchy seeming registry patch that was supposed to fix the problem, but to no avail. I'm really hoping that someone here can give me some insight to the problem, 'cause I'm out of ideas. It's times like this that I really miss XP, haha.

Thank you in advance and just let me know if you need any more information provided.

Can you SEE the share?

If so then it's a permissions issue... In which case you may have to change some settings in your machine to get it working... If it's shared XP style, be sure you have the Username/Password styled sharing enabled on your system.

It should ask you for a user name and password if all is well...

Yes I can see the share. I'm pretty sure I have sharing enabled that way. Just to make sure, it's Network sharing center > Advanced sharing settings > Password Protected Sharing (is now turned on). I also changed the option below it under homegroup options to "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers. Is this correct?

Since you're working with HomeGroups, I should step aside here and let the others, who are more experienced with this help you... Most of my (pseudo-)smarts come from business networking.

Actually at the moment I have homegroups disabled on both the computers in question. But I'm open to other suggestions :)
