Hi I have a server with Os windows2003, server is not configured in any domain(it is in workgroup), there are multiple computer connected to network, some are in company domain and some are in workgroup,
File sharing option is enable on server.
I am not able to transfer the files from server to non domain pc (workgroup), it is asking for username and password, after giving the username and password which is configured on server, it states username and password are invalid, while with the same user name I can transfer files to the pcs which are configured in company domain.
Can anyone help out with this issue.

Did you add the computer name before entering the username? For example if I wanted to authorise myself as a user called Josh on a machine called Josh-PC I would have to enter the following:

Username: Josh-PC\Josh

Then I would enter the password for that account.

In a domain environment it will automatically assign the correct domain name so you do not need to add anything before entering the username.

You may want to look into password protected sharing on Server 2003. I have not used this OS so I cannot offer any specific steps :(

The following link seems to relate to the question about Server 03 and Workgroup permissions. Even though it's about XP the details about the security permissions to allow access from a Workgroup to Server 03 may be helpful.

I'm not completely sure what Op system requires access to this server, if it's for Windows 7 there may be some other settings that could help. I'm sure you have already added the accounts to the Server with the same users names and passwords as the client machines.
